At the end of last week, General Motors triumphed in the world battle for the first place in the biggest auto constructors chart. The data published by GM show that the Detroit group managed to sell 9,025,942 vehicles, 7,6% more than last year and almost 1 million more vehicles compared to Volkswagen.

Volkswagen claims that the GM numbers were affected by SAIC MotorCorp and Liuzhou Wuling Motors. VW says that GM does not own the majority shares of those companies so they cannot claim the 1,2 million low cost vehicles sold by the Chinese auto builder in 2011.
